Solved : K3b Could not Burn on openSUSE 11.1

I got this trouble after upgrading my workstation to openSUSE 11.1 last week. K3b accidentally could not burn any blank dvd or CD, even using lower burn speed. The problem keep saying : “OPC failed, input/output error”.

I’m using Lite-On DVD RW LH-18A1P on openSUSE 11.1 x386. After searching for a while, I found the solution by change device setting for cdrdao driver.

Go to K3b setting, choose device tab and then change the cdrdao driver setting. The existing configuration is auto, and mine change to plextor. Try to burn DVD with 6X speed, and it was finished successfully. I give it a second try with 8X speed and got sucessful result.

k3b

I don’t know what is the root of problem, is this related with my openSUSE 11.1 (I don’t think so, because it may burn with plextor device for cdrdao setting) or with the configuration setting. It would also not 100% correct either, because I have no problem with 11.0 and former 10.3 :-)

Anyway, I’m happy for this solution although I could catch the root of problem. Finding another resource for this problem later.
